This is my shop, Nesting Bird Interiors. I figure there's no point being all mysterious. A picture is worth a thousand words as they say.

I found this birds nest yesterday while walking my dog Buffy (yes I'm a tragic fan of the TV series). It was on the ground but there were no sign of eggs or chicks
(the egg in the photo is

actually a Gianna Rose bird egg soap which I sell at my shop). I took the nest home because I thought it was so beautiful and I wondered about this labor of love - what had happened? Had the chicks grown up and flown the coupe or did something more sinister happen?

I remember being fascinated by nests as a child. I would climb along flimsy branches to get a closer look inside. This soon ended after discovering a scrawny chick discarded on the ground barely clinging to life. My Auntie Regina warned me that if I touched the nest the birds would smell my scent and toss the chick out. I'm not sure if this was entirely true but I took heed and enjoyed them from below instead.

Since opening my shop it seems that I'm haunted by birds. There is so much birdie stock around at the moment and without even trying I seem to have filled my shop with copious products with bird motifs.

Oh and by the way, the nest has found a new home in my shop in a tree branch I use to hang Megan Park's beautiful jewelery.

This is my shop Nesting Bird Interiors... my new project (well not all that new- I've been open for about eight months and yes it does feel like it).

The old bird cages are from China, I love this old stuff it has its own story to tell and it really suites the building. It was built in 1855 and has so much character, high ceilings and beautiful sash windows and even a sky light. I just love this space, its a pleasure to come to work every day.

These are the stairs you have to climb to get up to Nesting Bird Interiors... aren't they beautiful? Just twenty three steps to feather your nest (I know it's a bit corny but that's what my sandwich board reads. You have to make it sound appealing otherwise people just won't come upstairs).

Scott spent a hell of a lot of time getting the mission brown paint off these steps and the pressed metal was a great way to cut down the sanding workload. I should post the other image of Scott hammer in hand looking less then impressed fixing the pressed metal to the stairs.

My partner Scott found this Chinese proverb in a fortune cooking after a meal in Sydney's Chinatown (we were living there at the time- I had a nine month contact on a TV show). He turned to me and lamented that this was half our problem we just didn't sit still long enough to make a nest.

When the opportunity arose to open a shop in Brisbane the Chinese proverb seemed to make sense. There would be no way we'd be able to uproot so easily if I owned a shop and the time seemed right to put down some roots and so Nesting Bird Interiors was born.

Isn't it funny how you start a business and without even trying it becomes a reflection of who you are as a person and all the experiences you've had in your life up to that point.

There was also summitry in the fact that Nesting Bird is upstairs and the boutique downstairs is called Miss Mouse.
