Miss Mouse
Here's an image of Miss Mouse, the fabulous fashion boutique which I share the building with (I'm upstairs). Here you see the always glamorous Rose hard at work pricing a wonderful piece of clothing that I no doubt will want, as I do with most of the fabulous pieces Dee sources (Dee's the owner of Miss Mouse and a close friend).... it's so hard to resist when I have to walk past them all day.

The Cherry On The Cake
“La Cerise Sur Le Gateau” (the cherry on the cake) French designer Anne Hubert takes inspiration from the sunny side of life and feeds her imagination with it, she then reinterprets it with taste.
Her yummy textiles take basic elements from grandma’s kitchen sprinkled with flashy touches and quirky images.
We are exited to have “La Cerise Sur Le Gateau” cushions and tea towels in store, come in and check them out.

The feathers in my nest
I was sitting up here on my perch above Miss Mouse looking at my blog and I realised I hadn't posted anything on my blog that was remotely grown up for a while so I thought I'd share some images of the shop that weren't so kitsch. I hope you enjoy them.
Just as a side note I wanted to let you know that the street is pumping once more... the line up for Pearl Cafe is long (the food is well worth the wait) and the street is finally looking close to finish. We have trees and we are stoked. Cross Town Eating House is open and offering an enjoyable atmosphere, great food and a vodka or two (my favorite). Come by and visit me soon in my little nest upstairs above Miss Mouse.

Bluebird & Honey alert!!!
I'm in love with these cute little pinnies by Bluebird & Honey. I only wish I had a little darling to dress in them. They also do really cute elephant and owl cushions and baby clothes that are smartly bottled up. The perfect baby shower gift (hint, hint to all my friends who are going to Monique's baby shower in Darwin). Yes they are for boys too!

A Mad Tea Party to launch Paper Wings winter collection
To all mother's, daughter's and ladies who just refuse to grow up, this is your formal invitation to attend the Mad Hatter's Tea Party I'm throwing this Wednesday 15th April at 2pm to launch Paper Wings whimsical new winter collection.
It promises to be a day of fun and frivolity, with cupcakes and tea (of course)and games and giveaways and yes a performance of the mad tea party scene. And I might even sneak in a little champagne for the big girls!
I'm holding it a Joshua Levi Galleries (around the corner from Nesting Bird Interiors) 4 Ipswich Road Woolloongabba as I didn't want any little girls or big girls for that matter falling down the stairs after one too many cups of tea.
So dress up if that makes you happy. I'm intending to squeeze into one of Paper Wings little numbers because I love them so much!
Hope to see you there!
And don't put butter in your watch works with a bread knife as you can't afford to be two days late. Even if it is your best butter!

I'm really sorry I haven't posted anything lately, it's not that I haven't had anything to share it's just I've been so flat out. I flew to Sydney yesterday for the Life In Style Fair, wow what an exhausting day. I'm sure I was speaking gibberish and made no sense to anyone by the end of it. So many beautiful things to look at and touch which was fantastic for me, (I usually choose my interstate stock via the web) but talk about sensory overload!
I saw so many amazing things it was hard to decide what I should get and what I could leave behind. A couple of items worth a mention... whimsical butterfly wall plaques cut from old china plates. Bird Textiles new fabric covered cuckoo clocks.... I can't wait to get these in store. I think I'll set them all fifteen minutes apart so I can hear them cuckoo all day long (so what if it drives the men folk mad). Super cute pendants that look as through someone has put your mums ornaments in a shrinking machine and these have been spat out and threaded onto a chain. Lots of lovely bits and pieces from Blink Designs. There's so much more but my brain is still battling to remember anything. All in store soon.

Seeing as Valentines Day is rapidly approaching I thought I'd post a romantic plea by the master himself Nick Cave.
Love Letter
I hold this letter in my hand
A plea, a petition, a kind of prayer
I hope it does as I have planned
Losing her again is more than I can bear
I kiss the cold, white envelope
I press my lips against her name
Two hundred words. We live in hope
The sky hangs heavy with rain
Love Letter Love Letter
Go get her Go get her
Love Letter Love Letter
Go tell her Go tell her
A wicked wind whips up the hill
A handful of hopeful words
I love her and I always will
The sky is ready to burst
Said something I did not mean to say
Said something I did not mean to say
Said something I did not mean to say
It all came out the wrong way
Love Letter Love letter
Go get her Go get her
Love Letter Love letter
Go tell her Go tell her

I found this birds nest yesterday while walking my dog Buffy (yes I'm a tragic fan of the TV series). It was on the ground but there were no sign of eggs or chicks
(the egg in the photo is
actually a Gianna Rose bird egg soap which I sell at my shop). I took the nest home because I thought it was so beautiful and I wondered about this labor of love - what had happened? Had the chicks grown up and flown the coupe or did something more sinister happen?
I remember being fascinated by nests as a child. I would climb along flimsy branches to get a closer look inside. This soon ended after discovering a scrawny chick discarded on the ground barely clinging to life. My Auntie Regina warned me that if I touched the nest the birds would smell my scent and toss the chick out. I'm not sure if this was entirely true but I took heed and enjoyed them from below instead.
Since opening my shop it seems that I'm haunted by birds. There is so much birdie stock around at the moment and without even trying I seem to have filled my shop with copious products with bird motifs.
Oh and by the way, the nest has found a new home in my shop in a tree branch I use to hang Megan Park's beautiful jewelery.

This is my shop Nesting Bird Interiors... my new project (well not all that new- I've been open for about eight months and yes it does feel like it).
The old bird cages are from China, I love this old stuff it has its own story to tell and it really suites the building. It was built in 1855 and has so much character, high ceilings and beautiful sash windows and even a sky light. I just love this space, its a pleasure to come to work every day.

These are the stairs you have to climb to get up to Nesting Bird Interiors... aren't they beautiful? Just twenty three steps to feather your nest (I know it's a bit corny but that's what my sandwich board reads. You have to make it sound appealing otherwise people just won't come upstairs).
Scott spent a hell of a lot of time getting the mission brown paint off these steps and the pressed metal was a great way to cut down the sanding workload. I should post the other image of Scott hammer in hand looking less then impressed fixing the pressed metal to the stairs.
My partner Scott found this Chinese proverb in a fortune cooking after a meal in Sydney's Chinatown (we were living there at the time- I had a nine month contact on a TV show). He turned to me and lamented that this was half our problem we just didn't sit still long enough to make a nest.
When the opportunity arose to open a shop in Brisbane the Chinese proverb seemed to make sense. There would be no way we'd be able to uproot so easily if I owned a shop and the time seemed right to put down some roots and so Nesting Bird Interiors was born.
Isn't it funny how you start a business and without even trying it becomes a reflection of who you are as a person and all the experiences you've had in your life up to that point.
There was also summitry in the fact that Nesting Bird is upstairs and the boutique downstairs is called Miss Mouse.
